Overview

Kuno is a specialized crowdfunding tool built exclusively for the Monero ecosystem. Operated by Anne Media, it positions itself as a privacy-first alternative to mainstream platforms like GoFundMe and Kickstarter. The service enables individuals, charities, and projects to raise Monero (XMR) without creating accounts, paying platform fees, or submitting personal documentation. With over 1,400 XMR raised across nearly 200 active campaigns as of 2026, Kuno has established modest but meaningful traction within privacy-conscious communities. Campaigns range from humanitarian aid efforts and open-source development to small business seed funding and creative projects, reflecting the diverse use cases that uncensorable money enables.

Privacy & KYC

Kuno operates at the highest privacy tier available: L0 — Trustless, meaning no account registration of any kind is required to launch or support a campaign. This represents the gold standard for no-KYC services.

  • KYC tier: L0 — completely anonymous; no email, phone, or identity verification needed
  • IP logging: No indication of active IP collection for basic fundraising functions
  • Email requirement: None — campaigns can be created and shared via direct link
  • Censorship resistance: Monero's inherent privacy properties prevent donor deplatforming and recipient freezing

The platform's architecture aligns with cypherpunk principles: users retain full control of their funds throughout the entire donation flow. Unlike conventional crowdfunding sites that harvest donor data for compliance and marketing, Kuno facilitates pure peer-to-peer value transfer where only the public campaign page reveals any information — and even that is controlled entirely by the fundraiser.

Supported assets & payments

Kuno is Monero-only, a deliberate constraint that maximizes privacy but narrows accessibility. The platform does not integrate fiat on-ramps, stablecoins, or alternative cryptocurrencies. Fundraisers receive XMR directly to wallets they control, and donors must already possess Monero or acquire it through external channels such as peer-to-peer marketplaces, decentralized exchanges like Bisq, or cryptocurrency ATMs. The official site provides guidance on converting XMR to cash through services like LocalMonero, CakePay prepaid cards, and CoinCards gift cards — acknowledging that circular Monero economies remain incomplete. This single-asset approach eliminates counterparty risk from token bridges or custodial swaps, though it places onboarding burden on less technical users unfamiliar with acquiring privacy coins.

Security & custody

Kuno employs a non-custodial model that fundamentally distinguishes it from traditional crowdfunding platforms. Funds never touch Kuno's infrastructure; donations flow directly from donor wallets to fundraiser wallets via Monero's blockchain. This architecture eliminates the honeypot risk that plagues centralized services holding user deposits. There are no withdrawal limits, no account freezes, and no platform-imposed delays. The trade-off is reduced consumer protection — disputed donations or fraudulent campaigns cannot be reversed by Kuno administrators because the platform lacks technical control over transactions. Users must independently verify campaign legitimacy through external channels. The absence of smart contract escrow or multisig governance means trust resides entirely between counterparties, consistent with Kuno's minimalist philosophy.

Who it's for — verdict

Kuno serves a specific but underserved niche: individuals and organizations who prioritize financial privacy over convenience. Humanitarian workers operating in sanctioned regions, activists facing banking exclusion, open-source developers seeking censorship-resistant funding, and privacy-conscious entrepreneurs all find obvious utility here. The platform's zero-fee structure particularly benefits small campaigns where mainstream platform commissions would consume disproportionate value. However, Kuno is not suitable for fundraisers needing broad mainstream reach, fiat settlement speed, or regulatory clarity. The Monero-only requirement filters out donors unfamiliar with cryptocurrency acquisition. With an overall score of 8/10 and privacy score of 90/100, Kuno excels at its narrow mission but remains deliberately constrained. Its trust score of 60/100 reflects the inherent risks of unmoderated peer-to-peer transactions rather than operational failures. For the privacy-pure crowdfunding use case, Kuno is currently unmatched.

Kuno is a very useful platform to raise funds but in privacy mode. It's really an awesome project, hope it'll gain more supporters in future so users can raise funds for their needs but in privacy mode.
