Overview

RoboSats operates as a fully open-source, peer-to-peer marketplace built around a simple premise: trade Bitcoin for fiat without ever surrendering personal data. The platform generates disposable robot avatars on demand, eliminating the concept of user accounts entirely. Trades settle over the Lightning Network using hodl invoices as bonds and escrows, compressing the typical P2P timeline from hours to minutes. The entire service runs exclusively through Tor, meaning neither the coordinator nor trading counterparts ever see a user's real IP address or location. For privacy-conscious stackers in 2026, RoboSats represents one of the most radically minimal trust models available in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Privacy & KYC

RoboSats sits at the absolute apex of the no-KYC spectrum with a Tier L0 classification—no account, no email, no phone number, no username, and no identity documents of any kind. The platform enforces privacy through four core mechanisms:

  • Zero registration: A single click spawns a random robot avatar with its own PGP keypair; no user input means no accidental self-doxxing.
  • PGP-encrypted chat: All peer communication is end-to-end encrypted and auditable against the OpenPGP standard.
  • Tor-only access: The site and API are unreachable over clearnet; IP logging is technically impossible by design.
  • One trade, one identity: Users are actively encouraged to generate a fresh robot for every transaction, preventing on-chain or behavioral linkability across swaps.

This architecture makes RoboSats as close to theoretically anonymous as a fiat-interfacing exchange can get. The only information leakage surface is the fiat payment rail itself, which users control by choosing privacy-preserving methods like cash deposits or postal orders.

Supported assets & payments

The marketplace centers on Bitcoin as the base asset, with settlement available both on-chain and via the Lightning Network for near-instant finality. On the fiat side, national currencies are traded peer-to-peer, meaning the available payment methods depend on what individual counterparties accept. Community chatter indicates robust support for cash trades, bank transfers, and various regional payment apps. Monero is also accepted in some swap configurations, broadening the privacy toolkit for users who want to bridge between anonymity-focused coins and Bitcoin. Notably, RoboSats does not support Tether or other stablecoins, which has drawn occasional criticism from traders seeking crypto-to-crypto swaps without touching fiat rails.

Security & custody

RoboSats is explicitly non-custodial. The platform never holds user funds; instead, Lightning hodl invoices lock trade bonds and escrow amounts in programmatically controlled contracts. These contracts release automatically upon cryptographic proof of payment completion or time out and return funds if a trade fails. Because there are no wallets to drain and no central pool of assets, the exchange presents minimal honeypot risk. The open-source codebase allows anyone to audit the contract logic, verify coordinator behavior, or even spin up an independent instance. This transparency, combined with the absence of user deposits, earns RoboSats a trust score that approaches theoretical maximums despite the team's pseudonymous operation.

Who it's for — verdict

RoboSats is purpose-built for Bitcoiners who treat privacy as a default setting, not an optional toggle. It rewards users comfortable with Tor, Lightning wallets, and brief PGP-secured chat sessions. The ideal user is someone stacking sats regularly, willing to trade fiat for Bitcoin without leaving an institutional paper trail. It is less suited for newcomers seeking hand-holding, stablecoin convenience, or recourse through a support ticket system. For those who fit its threat model, RoboSats delivers a rare combination: genuine peer-to-peer sovereignty, sub-block settlement times, and a trust architecture that assumes the coordinator itself could be compromised without endangering user funds. In 2026, as regulatory pressure on self-custody intensifies across Europe and beyond, tools like RoboSats shift from niche curiosity to essential infrastructure.

I love Robosats! I believe that this is currently the best method for stacking sats. Now that Europe is becoming more and more like China, Robosats has become the only way I can buy btc (without KYC).

I have used RoboSats several dozen times without an issue. It requires no downloads other than Tor. NO KYC EVER. It is good for BTC transactions that are smaller like USD/Euro 1000. Many currencies are available though most market makers are USD or EUR. I love this site. Great for stacking seats discreetly.

It is anonymous service (Tor, no KYC, no account, Lightning works well). Good for newbies.
